Its the last day of the month again and Im just getting my July blog in!
The heat wave continued and we have just had a bit of rain at the weekend, the first for months! Garden sure needed it, and thankfully its a touch cooler. Im not a hot weather gal!
This month I have been thinking a lot about my practice and where its going. Brought on by lots of chatting about creative practice at Face to Face meetigs at ArtistsWorkhouse, which has been marvellous. Also visits to London and Birmingham for some veyr interesting exhibitions...
First, the Society of Designer Craftmen had an exhibition and shop at a new venue at Chelsea school of art. I was'nt exhibiting this time but great to support and see other members and their work.
Of course opposite is the Tate Britain so had a lovely wander around. In particular I was taken with the paintings of Lisa Brice, very emotive and really wonderful colour pallette, blues and reds, wonderful!
Then I travelled over to see the Summer Exhibition at Royal Academy. I was curious to see whether there were more textiles with Grayson Perry as curator. There were, but they were a curious mix...the heat of travelling around London had worn me out a bit but there were some memorable pieces, particularly Debbie Lawson and 'Red Bear'. Great idea, and a well crafted execution which is how it should be for me, not just the idea and not just the craft.
Finally a visit to The Mac, Birmingham to see the latest exhibition form the wonderful 62 Group called 'Ctrl/Shift'...too many amazing artists and works to mention, so if you love contemporary art and/or texiles do visit. Its on til 9th September and really worth a visit, some fantastic pieces.
